The mission of the Pikes Peak Studio Tour is to provide a creative and productive organization that opens its members’ studios to the public for cultural enrichment. The Art of Photography
Learn the basics of photography using film-based and digital photography. This course develops an understanding of how camera controls function together to create photographic images. Hands-on class meetings include assignments that address image making effects and how to compose images. Emphasis is placed on training the eye to crop an image using the cameras lens as the guide.

The Art of Botanical Illustration
1-Day Demonstrations
For many centuries, art has helped science to describe the natural world. Botanical illustration has a long and illustrious past as part of the exploration of new lands and continues to deepen our understanding of what’s around us. Learn about the history of botanical artwork from medieval herbals to modern field guides. In addition to learning about various styles of illustration, applications for artwork and the importance of good science in lecture format, get a feel for how it’s done with detailed demonstrations. Bring note taking supplies, curiosity and lots of questions! Ages 16-Adult

Kumihimo Teaser: Japanese Braiding on the Card
1-Day Workshop
Learn basic braiding principles by making samples using different Kumihimo techniques. Discover how to braid with beads as well as finishing techniques by making a lovely Kumihimo bracelet. There will be a $30 materials fee payable to the instructor on day of class. Supply list. Adult

Nuno Felted Chiffon Scarf
Begin by dyeing a silk chiffon scarf using acid dyes, a group of dyes that are easy to use and require low, if any, auxiliaries. Turn your dyed scarf into a wearable work of art by felting fancy fibers, ribbons and yarns onto the dyed scarf with wool strands. Each scarf will be unique. There will be a $35 materials fee payable to the instructor on day of class. Supply list. Ages 16-Adult

Landscapes in Oil
1-Day Demonstration
The artist works on representational, but very expressionistic work, in oil of Colorado landscapes, skies, clouds on fairly large canvases (24x30 or larger) and from photos taken on trips in Colorado. Three canvases; one to start from the beginning, one partially completed and one finished painting of the same subject will be used in the demonstration. The artist emphasizes part of the process for her work as being open to interpretation and the amazing “accidents” that can happen. Ages 16-Adult

Exploring Fine Art with Latex Paints
2-Day Workshop
Be original, frugal and “Green”. Create beautiful landscapes and abstract paintings with your leftover interior or exterior latex paint. Don’t throw your unused paint away, bring it to this fun and creative workshop and explore the possibilities. Suitable for beginners, interior designers and experienced artists interested in experimenting with a new medium that provides creative outlet, with a touch of “Green”. We’ll review composition basics, including the power of a strong focal point and the use of color to express your inner artist. Supply list. Ages 16-Adult

Gourd Fiber Frenzy
1-Day Workshop
Coiling with abandon! Use the ancient technique of coiling with a modern twist to decorate a gourd with a frenzy of colors and fibers! Finish it by adding more funky fibers; sea grass, mizuhiki, yarns, feathers as well as beads or recycled jewelry pieces to create a personal work of art. There will be a $55 materials fee payable to the instructor on day of class. Supply list. Ages 16-Adult
