Ages 2-5

Colors, Shapes, Creative Play
Explore line, shape and color! An early art experience designed for young children with active participation from a parent or grown-up. This class offers an opportunity for children to develop self expression and artistic imagination through song, stories and lots of art. Explore a variety of art materials, artists and the basic elements of art. *Parents must stay with children enrolled in class. Siblings must be enrolled in class to participate. Siblings over 5 years old may not remain in the classroom.

Ages 3-5

Play, Act, Create
A creative art and drama experience for young students. Explore the lives of artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Frida Kahlo through wonderful children’s books. Create works of art inspired by famous paintings and sculpture with watercolor, pastel, tempera and clay. Act out adventures using props and costumes while incorporating music and dance.

Junior Art Adventure
Come on a journey filled with creative adventures! Using various media, inspiration from current exhibits at the Fine Arts Center, faraway places, creatures real and imaginary, and of course some great works of art throughout history. Each class will be a unique adventure!

My Clay
Learn basic pottery skills while making projects full of creativity. Create a personalized cereal bowl, hot chocolate mug, name plate and more.

Outside the Lines
There are no rules here except to try something new and different in each class. Defy the norms and paint green skies, blue grass, triangle suns, square trees, polka dot bananas and so much more. Explore your imagination and think outside the box about form, color, texture and perspective. Still life drawings will be done upside down to illustrate left and right brain perspectives on perceptions of objects.

Lets make Art

Going Green
An introduction to the important concept of recycling: put those paintbrushes away and explore painting with materials from home. Empty ketchup containers will serve as paint squirt bottles, celery stalks will become paintbrushes, old clothing can become a canvas, q-tips can become paint scrapers and who knows what else will be discovered! Remember….one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Sunday at the Museum:
Parent and Child
Enjoy Sunday afternoons in this parent/child class as we explore the museum together and return to the studio to paint, print or draw using a variety of fine art materials. Young and old explore art together in the studio using watercolor pencil, acrylic paint, charcoal, watercolor crayons and more!

Pottery of the Southwest
Create hand built pottery inspired by Native Americans of the southwest United States. Create useful, decorative and whimsical objects while learning basic hand building and decorating skills. The class will incorporate storybooks and a visit to the Fine Arts Center galleries.

Explore Fiber Arts
Discover the wonderful world of fiber arts by exploring hand felting and weaving with a variety of fibers. Fiber arts encourage your self expression and creativity. Learn to create felt by hand using wool roving to create unique pictures and jewelry, and weaving with fibers to create your own pieces of artwork.

The Sketch Artist

Photography

Harry Potter: Art and Drama
An adventure in art and drama designed to encourage creativity and imagination using stories and characters from the Harry Potter fantasy series. The Daily Artist

Learn to draw famous cartoon characters using professional techniques. Utilize your skills to create your own cartoon character and bring it to life through animation. All animation will be put on DVD so you can show off your new skills on your television. Amaze your family and friends with your new skills. There will be a $10 material fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class for the DVD. Supply list.

Tiles Together: Parent and Child
A chance to create something truly unique together. Learn the basics of relief tile making and let your imagination run wild! Make a series of decorative wall tiles or mount your tiles together to make a family mosaic. Students can also participate in a raku firing.
