Youth Repertory Theatre, now in its tenth year, is a highly anticipated part of the theatre season here at the Fine Arts Center (FAC). Youth Repertory Theatre (YRT) 2009 is a five week intensive training program for students 14 to 18 who are interested in a career in the theatre arts. This program offers classes taught by professional actors, directors, designers, and technicians and culminates with two full scale productions performed in repertory (rep). Repertory allows friends and family to see both shows sometimes within the same day. This year’s productions are Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical, Cats, and an updated, modern version of William Shakespeare’s classic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The program is open to both performance and technical theatre students. SPACE IS LIMITED so early registration is recommended. All performance students are required to audition prior to registration. There will be one final day of auditions on Sunday, March 15, 2009 from 12 - 2 p.m. in the Music Room at the Fine Arts Center, 30 West Dale Street, in downtown All perspective students will be considered for both the musical and the play. If a student wishes to be only considered for either the musical or the play they need to make the Program Director aware of this when they come in for their audition. We recommend that all students audition for both shows. If a student were to exclude themselves from one or the other show they will be limiting the performance opportunities available to them. All male students wishing to audition must call 719.477.4382 for an audition appointment. Auditions: Prior to your audition time you must first prepare and memorize a short song (appropriate musical theatre or pop music selection) that lasts no more than one minute (16 to 32 bars), that shows your strengths, and a short monologue of your choice, either classical or contemporary and should not be any longer than one minute in length. You must bring sheet music for your song. An accompanist will be provided to play for your audition. The music must be legible and in the correct key. No boom boxes will be allowed. In addition to the above, perspective students will also be required to go through a movement/dance segment as a part of the audition process (1:30 to 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 15th). Please bring dance clothing to the audition - something you can move in comfortably, including dance shoes. If you do not own dance shoes, sneakers are acceptable. When auditions have been completed, the Program Director will contact all those who auditioned within the following couple of weeks toDue to popular demand, the number of students admitted into this program has been raised from 12 to 15. Students participating in this program will learn all of the basic technical theatre duties it takes to put on a show. Upon completion, these students will have the a technical theatre skills that allow them the opportunity to participate as interns for upcoming Fine Arts Center Theatre Company main stage productions. In addition to taking classes these students will assist the FAC Theatre Company’s professional designers, stage managers, and technicians with all aspects of the production side of both Cats and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
