Neil Simon comedy opens FAC Theatre Company’s 2007-08 seasonBrighton Beach Memoirs, the first of three autobiographical plays by Neil Simon, portrays the writer as a teenager living with his family in crowded, lower middle class circumstances. Eugene is the narrator and central character who takes us through a series of trenchant observations and insights that show his family meeting life’s challenges with pride, spirit, and a marvelous sense of humor. Brighton Beach is a family comedy, rated PG-13. “This play is centered on the family being the most important thing in the world,” says director Alan Osburn. “These are people – the Jerome family – who are going through a number of hardships, but who say, ‘no matter what, we’re going to make it because our family is going to stay together.’” “Simultaneously poignant and funny. ... An outstanding show ... the best seen on Broadway in too long a time.” “In many respects Neil Simon’s funniest, richest and consequently the most affecting of his plays.”
