All New Women

Unique takes on women who change the world

June 11, 2016 - September 18, 2016

This innovative exhibition pairs the esteemed portraiture of John Singer Sargent with provocative self-portrait photographs by contemporary artist Cindy Sherman, whose Society Portraits depict her as a number of aging women of means. Sherman is one of the most important living artists in the United States, and her work has taken photography to new and fascinating places. This exhibition matches Sargent’s paintings with Sherman’s photographs, and together they make curious visual statements about trailblazing women who forged new paths for the next generations.

Also included in the exhibition are Lyle Ashton Harris and Sara Howsam. Sara is a Colorado Springs based artist making new work inspired by the theme of influential women and looking to her own peers and to the history of the FAC and Colorado Springs to find subjects for the paintings.
