Looking for a homesteading type of experience in a “hidden,” urban farm on the Westside of Colorado Springs? From udder to the table - learn everything from how to milk a goat to how to make mozzarella, ricotta and soft goat cheese! Enjoy samples of all the cheeses you make and you’ll indulge in a farm fresh brunch. Each class is limited to four participants and will take place at the Westside farm.

Modern Resilience: Black and White Photography
March 23, April 6-7 | Three-day Workshop
Immerse yourself in the photographic styles of the Farm Security Administration photographers from the 1930s. On the first night, attend a lecture about the FSA photographers and their styles, visit the Resilience exhibitions and attend Of Mice and Men in the SaGāJi Theatre. Spend the next sessions following in the shoes of one of the FSA photographers, working in today’s tough economic times by capturing the current events and atmosphere of your own community.
Pre-requisite – Beginning B&W film photography; a working knowledge of film processing and B&W printing. Supply list. Adult

Contemporary Art: Convolutions, Conundrums, Controversy…and Cocktails!
March 29-May 3 | Six-week Class
What better way to experience contemporary art’s most visionary, vital, vulgar, and sometimes vile moments than with a cocktail in-hand? Museum Director Blake Milteer and Curatorial Assistant Joy Armstrongwill take you on a tag-team grand tour of modern precursors to contemporary art and themes in art from the 1970s through today.
For each class, master mixologist Justin Trudeau will design an innovative and delicious cocktail (or mocktail) that complements the theme of the week. This look at important contemporary art through discussion, slide shows, videos, permanent collection art, and the new exhibitionsTerry Maker: Reckoning and Ghost of a Dream: Remember When Tomorrow Came will leave you thirsting for more! One drink per person included and additional cocktails $7. Must be 21 or older.

Artisanal Kitchen: The Basics of Food Fermentation

The old is new again. Canning and fermenting foods is no longer something your grandmother did, it is what foodies and frugal shoppers are doing again, today. Learn the depression-era skills necessary to preserve fresh vegetables by pickling and fermenting them. You will make and taste delicious mint chutney, pickled veggies, and sauerkraut. The methods taught are easy to learn and will help to stretch your food dollars while filling your shelves with healthy, delicious, and probiotic-packed foods you can enjoy all year long. The workshop is taught by Elizabeth Roberts, a Certified Natural Foods Chef, BS, and owner of Epicureal Delights. A $5 food fee covers tasting, recipes, and produce.

Free Family Adventure Day: Recycle and Reuse
April 21 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Create works of art at the Bemis School of Art using materials found around the house. Transform corks into a mosaic, create a mono-print with paper scraps and string or design a cardboard and egg carton sculpture. Treasure a day with your family, enjoying artist demonstrations and hands-on art projects led by Bemis instructors.
Also, free, docent-led tour of the FAC galleries at 12:30 p.m!

April 22 | One-Day Workshop
Terry Maker, a conceptual artist whose exhibition “Reckoning” will be showing through June, uses everyday materials such as pencils, jawbreakers and old records, to create exciting dimensional artwork. Inspired by this exhibit, each student will create an individual piece composed of cast off domestic materials mounted on board. There will be a $10.00 materials fee payable to the instructor on the day of class. Supply list. Ages 7-adult
