Director John Ford's most famous black-and-white epic drama, The Grapes of Wrath is the classic adaptation of John Steinbeck's 1940 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. The film honestly and realistically recreates the socio-economic impact of the Great Depression and the drought upon one representative family - the Joads. Its theme of an oppressed people's epic move to a new home parallels the Biblical story of Exodus.

Lifeboat (1944)
Wednesday, Apr. 4, 6:30 p.m. | SaGāJi Theatre
Directed by master filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, Lifeboat marks a change in the director’s career. After years of producing numerous elaborate thrillers, Hitchcock stages all of the action in this movie in one tiny boat, adrift in the North Atlantic. Tallulah Bankhead, William Bendix and Hume Cronyn star as survivors of a Nazi torpedo attack. Hitchcock developed the central idea for the film and John Steinbeck wrote the script.
