Artist Statement

“The natural world is my inspiration and classroom. It has been an integral part of my long quest for meaning and offers many truths and teachings. A driving force of my existence, I depict my thoughts and feelings about it in my paintings; sometimes in very subtle ways.”

Meet our Museum Shop Artists

Michael Baum

Michael’s 35-year, passionate exploration of the American West has led to an advanced landscape painting practice at the top echelon of this genre. He thrives on the challenge of getting to the essence of a scene through translating the immense beauty, light, and air of a place. He lives and works in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Lance Green

Lance Green

Lance is a Colorist and an Expressionist, but more than that he is a storyteller – conjuring images that take the viewer beyond the mere skin and bone of the subject and into the soul that lies hidden beneath. His works are self-reflective, but universal in their application, expressing the human paradox of grace and despair.

First Friday NADINE SAGE

Nadine Sage

Nadine is the youngest of seven, raised in Massachusetts and Prince Edward Island, Canada in a family of accomplished artists. She incorporates 18th and 19th century illustrations into her work, giving old images new life. On a whim, she incorporated her art into a belt buckle –“I love the idea of wearing a piece of art”. After several years of perfecting the process, her Colorado Springs-based design company, SAGE+LØVE was born.

Laura Reilly

Laura Reilly

Born in Plattsburg, New York to a military family, Laura spent her childhood traveling Europe and the American Southwest. Laura has built up a stellar reputation as a leading American Impressionist painter. Many of her unique oil paintings depict scenes inspired by the natural beauty of Colorado Springs. In her own words, “To see and translate into paint the great beauty all around us is truly a privilege.”

Karen Fisher

Karen Fisher

A former high school English teacher, Karen is a well-known mixed media artist. She draws inspiration from her motley collection of materials – from Japanese newspapers to dry-cleaning tags. She enjoys adding a dash of improvisation to her work. As she says, “I always approach the work in my studio with an idea of what I want it to be…the colors and composition I’ve considered, but as I enter the work, I’m open to see where it will lead me.”

Ramona Lapsley

Ramona Lapsley

Working out of her studio in nearby Manitou Springs, Ramona focuses on the art of printmaking. She usually uses watercolor within her black ink prints. Her work showcases a keen interest in geology, natural life, and the beauty of gardens. Ramona oftentimes combines all three elements – trout and sport fishing are frequent subjects of hers.
