Integrate art and learning in a memorable field trip to the FAC’s permanent collection museum galleries of Native American, Hispanic, Latin American, and modern American art, the Tactile Gallery, and world-class special exhibitions. Choose from a variety of activities incorporating Colorado Standards-Based Curriculum. From art class curricula to gallery tours, FAC educational programs follow the State of Colorado Department of Education’s standards. Through visual art, we strive to encourage student creativity and imagination as a strategy for educational success.

Journey into Art

Journey into Writing
Grades 2–12 | For groups of 10-80
Your group will learn to write poetry inspired by art. This unique tour joins the visual arts with language arts in an immersive writing activity. Docents will lead an in-depth tour through the FAC museum galleries, discuss the art and provide writing prompts for students to use in expressing their responses. This activity expands the student’s ability to look, communicate and respond in writing to what he/she sees. Journey into Theater
Grades 2-12 | For groups of 10-100
Experience a rare, behind-the-scenes look at our historic 400-seat theater and production spaces. Visit the prop, scenic and costume shops, where we make almost all of the elements you see in our stage productions. Go backstage (and even under the stage) to learn about the theater’s rigging and fly systems. Tours also include elements of theatre and architectural history and are led by artists involved in the current production. 60 minutes.

Schedule a Tour
Requests for group tours must be submitted 15 business days in advance of the requested tour date. Dates are subject to availability. Be prepared to give us the planned date and time of your tour, number of students, grade levels, teacher names, phone numbers and email addresses. Every eight students must be accompanied by one adult chaperone. Groups with 10 or more students receive a free admission for 1 chaperone/teacher for every eight students.
All tours utilize volunteer docents and staff with significant training and experience with students of all ages. Tours use interactive methods of learning which includes inquiry, discussion, critical thinking and strengthening of visual literacy.
Please keep in mind that due to logistical constraints, not all tour groups will see exactly the same art works and due to schedule constraints tour groups will focus on a limited selection of art works during their gallery tour. It is also possible, due to the nature of the museum that there may be some visible nudity in certain works of art. Chaperone Guidelines
